Georgia Association of Public Pension Trustees

Now in its tenth year, the GAPPT exists to promote education for Georgia's Public Pension Trustees. Members have the opportunity to meet peers from around the state at both our Annual Conference and Trustee School. GAPPT educational events promote discussion of topics pertinent to the current economic climate and provide Trustees the information and tools to better serve their constituents. If you are a current member of the Association, please continue to check the website periodically to see what is new. HB 196: What Does It Mean for Georgia's Public Pension Trustees?

On March 22, 2019, the Georgia Senate passed/adopted HB 196 requiring each public retirement system trustee to complete appropriate education applicable to his or her fiduciary duties and obligations under the public retirement system. Recently signed into law by Governor Kemp, a trustee appointed or elected on or after July 1, 2019 will now be required to complete a minimum of 8 hours of education within one year of becoming a new trustee. Trustees appointed or elected before July 1, 2019, or who have served one or more years, will need to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education every two years

A recent research project sponsored by the National Conference of Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) presents a critique of the existing accounting rules for public pension funds as formulated in the various statements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and some suggestions about different directions that might help policy makers make better decisions about the pension plans they manage.
